Andre McEachnie

Artist, Trinidad and Tobago

Andre “Shabaka” McEachnie performed with the McEachnie’s family music band, “Black Experience”/ “Roots and Branches”. He was a member of Clive Telemaque’s “Audio Stars”, “The Mausica Teachers Choir” and “The University of the West Indies Chorale”. Andre has also been a former educator at all levels of the education system, eventually retiring as a Curriculum Officer for Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and Drama – Ministry of Education, Trinidad and Tobago. Over the years, he has worked with and supported several young people as students including, Hiliare Murray, Khadija Glasgow-Speers, Nigel Lewis, Marvin Lewis, Patrice Roberts, Damien Preston and others. Two of his major achievements include being a cast member of Kitchener Revue Calypso Tent for one season and his Nomination as Best New Male Soca Artiste, Sunshine Awards New York, 1997. He has written different genres of music over the years, but is now praising the Lord through his very meaningful compositions. He continues to be a Community Worker and Cultural researcher /author.
